The area surrounding FirstPark has innumerable assets and amenities. There are well known educational institutions – Colby College, Thomas College, Unity College, University of Maine and Kennebec Valley Community College. FirstPark is an example of how 24 communities and affiliated organizations can come together, develop a project, and assist companies with their relocation or expansion decisions. The work of several economic development leaders and organizations has created the Kennebec Valley Entrepreneurial Network. This network of well over 100 entrepreneurs (and growing!) represents a group developing ideas that will someday grow new business ventures in Maine. This network is strongly supported by Colby College, Thomas College and the University of Maine. In addition, there is strong business support and organizational support.
Maine, specifically the University of Maine, also is a leader in composite materials development as well as exploring the possibilities of off-shore wind and on-shore tidal alternative energies technology. Their work is nationally and internationally recognized.
